Student Section:

 From the Nurse’s Corner: We are still in flu season. Please be mindful of practicing good health hygiene. 1) Stay home when you are sick. If you have had a fever or have vomited in the last 24 hours, stay home. Make sure not to come to school until you are 24 hours free of a fever or vomiting. 2) Cover your coughs or sneezes with a tissue or the crook of your elbow. 3) Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds before eating or touching your face. And remember to stay healthy Yellow Jackets!!!

Drivers Education: Are you ready to get behind the wheel? Enroll in Drivers Education and prepare for your DMV written exam. Earn 2.5 credits. Classes are Monday – Thursday 7:00am- 7:45 am. Classes begin March 2nd in B-101. This is a 6-7 week course. Minimum age to enroll is 15 ½ years old. Please see Ms. Nateras (Counselors office) to enroll, seats are limited.

*The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) will be administered to all students designated English language learners.  If you speak a 2nd language and have not been reclassified English language proficient, you will be scheduled to take the exam beginning today through March 31, 2020.  An overall score of 3 may qualify you to be redesignated English language proficient and you will be exempt from the exam next year.   A call-slip will be sent to your 2nd period classroom requesting your attendance at a designated location. Please follow the instructions on the slip,  take the exam seriously and do your very best!   If you score an overall 3, you will qualify to be entered in a drawing for Jacket gear or gift cards.  For any questions regarding the exam, please see assistant principal Ms. Carabajal.

*Summer school applications for all current OHS students will be available in the back office starting today. Once completed, turn it in at your counselor’s office for their approval and signature. 

*Grad Nite Ticket Sales have started! Six Flags Gradnite will be Friday, May 22nd. Tickets are $140. Disneyland Gradnite will be on Friday, June 12th after graduation practice. The price is $225. Tickets are non-refundable. Each senior can purchase one ticket per Gradnite. Find out more info on ASB’s social media pages such as deadlines for each. There is a limited quantity so buy yours while you can with the bookkeeper

Clubs/ Organizations:

Congratulations to the new 2020-21 FCCLA Region 7 President, Rafael Apodaca, and Treasurer Guillermo Rodarte. There will be a club meeting next Weds, March 4th in K136. All students interested in Culinary Arts, Entrepreneurship, Baking&Pastry, and Fashion are welcome! 

Seniors that wanted senior portraits and for whatever reason didn’t get them done, come sign up in K-122 for a time in the studio to get professional photos taken by our Honors Photography Class. 

*Our annual Breaking the Silence Charity Concert will be hosted by the Mental Health Club in May. If you would like to participate, please see Mrs. Murillo in room B113 to sign up for auditions, which will take place on March 18th. 

 College and career center:

Remember seniors, if you haven’t done your FAFSA, you can go to Oxnard College to the student services building between 9:00am-1:00pm to complete it. It will only take about 30 minutes to get done. Come by my office if you need a checklist of what you’ll need to bring. Deadline is on Monday.


*Cheer tryouts will be April 27th to May 1st. In order to tryout, you must attend one of the information meeting with a parent or guardian. The information meetings will be March 10th from 5 to 6 PM or March 21st from 10 AM to 11 AM in room B 109.
