Student Section:

Challenge Day is now open to Juniors and Seniors and permission slips are available in the back office but need to be turned in by today. 

The week’s word is nonchalant which describes when someone is acting very calm and unconcerned, keeping their cool. It’s a French word we’ve adopted.An example sentence: Most people try to be nonchalant when their crush walks by at school.

Summer school applications for all current OHS students will be available in the back office starting Wednesday, February 12th. Once completed, turn it in at your counselor’s office for their approval and signature. 

All incoming freshman can pick up an application when the OHS Counseling Team visits their school to select their 2020/2021 courses. The completed applications can be turned in at Freshman Parent Nights March 2nd, 4th or 5th. 

*Save the Date—OHS’ Open House is scheduled for February 27, 2020.  Our “Showcase at The Hive” starts at 6:00PM to 7:30PM, at the PAC, and concludes with visitations in the various disciplines/subjects at 8:30PM. We will have food sales, by our clubs and sports teams, and community organizations will be present providing information about their services throughout the quad. We will be inviting our incoming freshmen–class of 2024.  Come join the fun!  Ask your teachers about possible extra-credit for attending our annual Open House at the hive.     

*Come join the fun at our “Jacket Jubilee” on February 28, 2020!  We will have our 2nd annual festival with clubs and sports selling goodies and providing fun activities.  Bring your “ca-ching (money)” and purchase your festival tickets.  Ticket sales will begin on 2/24/2020 at the ASB window.    Money will not be received at the booths/stands.  If your club or sport is interested in setting food or providing an activity booth, please see assistant principal Ms. Lauren Rodriguez or Ms. Paula Escamilla in the back office.  

*SENIORS, if you scored “Standard Exceeded”, OR, “Standard Met” on the CAASPP summative assessment for English Language Arts; AND passed an AP Spanish/Chinese/French/Latin/Italian/German/ or Japanese exam with at least a 3, OR, are currently enrolled in your fourth year of Spanish with a “B” average in these classes than you qualify for the prestigious California Seal of Biliteracy. Please go to and click on “Apply today for the State Seal of Biliteracy.” The deadline to apply is February 15th. If you have any questions please go to room C-209.

*Grad Nite Ticket Sales have started! Six Flags Gradnite will be Friday, May 22nd. Tickets are $140. Disneyland Gradnite will be on Friday, June 12th after graduation practice. The price is $225. Tickets are non-refundable. Each senior can purchase one ticket per Gradnite. Find out more info on ASB’s social media pages such as deadlines for each. There is a limited quantity so buy yours while you can with the bookkeeper

*The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) will be administered to all students designated English language learners.  If you speak a 2nd language and have not been reclassified English language proficient, you will be scheduled to take the exam beginning February 5th through March 31, 2020.  An overall score of 3 may qualify you to be redesignated English language proficient and you will be exempt from the exam next year.   A call-slip will be sent to your 2nd period classroom requesting your attendance at a designated location. Please follow the instructions on the slip,  take the exam seriously and do your very best!   If you score an overall 3, you will qualify to be entered in a drawing for Jacket gear or gift cards.  For any questions regarding the exam, please see assistant principal Ms. Carabajal

Clubs/ Organizations:

CSF applications for second semester are now available in K135. See Mr. Mostowa or the CSF cabinet members for more details! Applications close Friday, February 14

Our annual Breaking the Silence Charity Concert will be hosted by the Mental Health Club in May. If you would like to participate, please see Mrs. Murillo in room B113 to sign up for auditions, which will take place on March 18th. 

 College and career center:

Attention Seniors! 20 more days to submit a FAFSA or DREAM Act application!

Tomorrow there will be a Financial Aid workshop from 5-8pm in the College and Career Center. Bring your social security number and 2018 tax information.

Sign ups have started for Pirate Friday. It is a field trip to Ventura College for the students that have applied and plan on attending in the Fall. There are only 45 spots available. 


All JV and frosh soph players need to return their home and away jersey’s this week to coach Conte. Remember if they are not returned your first semester grade will be changed to a “F” Grade and you will be charge $300.00.
