Weekly Update, Friday, December 6, 2019


This week the Law Academy visited the Homeboy Industries. Homeboy Industries is the largest gang intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world. Students enjoyed a great and educational tour of the facilities.

 College and Career Center   

Senior students Lance Pascasio and Diana Navarro were both matched to a top 10 ranking National University in the 2019-2020 Quest Bridge College Match. The enduring process started 6 months ago at the end of summer up until Tuesday when they found out they got matched. Finally, their hard work has paid off. The National College Match is a college admission and scholarship process through which high-achieving, low-income students can be admitted early with a full four-year scholarship worth over $200,000 each. Lance was matched with Duke University and Diana to the University of Chicago. 


On Thursday, November 21st PTA held their Presentation of Awards night for 2019 PTA Reflections Art Program. For over 50 years National PTA’s Reflections Program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life. A few of our Yellow Jackets received awards this year. In the Literature category Excellence Award went to N. Taylor Perez. Photography category Excellence Award went to Evelyn Alcaraz Vargas, Award of Merit Vanessa Valdivia, Honorable Mention Briana Hurtado, and Giselle Palomares. Visual Arts category Excellence Award went to Anastasia Teran, and Award of Merit Vincent Jimenez.  Congratulations to all the award winners!
