The OHS Mockers did an amazing job on Monday and Tuesday of this week competing against thirty other high schools in the area. They were long days, followed by long nights. Unfortunately, we did not make the final round, but we super proud. Six months of hard work and dedicated students is a win all by itself. Thank you to Ms Navarro and the amazing students that participated in this year’s Mock Trial 2019.
Commercial Photography students this week worked to up-cycle old material into a living hanging garden to use for props in their pictures. They created a beautiful outdoor area to use in photos. Students then made planters out of cement and used their hanging garden to plant and prop for commercial photo adds in the OHS studio. The planters where not only photographed, but where given to staff to showcase them in classrooms and in the administration office. Thank you, Ms. Tanner, for the amazing work your students put out and share with others.
Oxnard, Rio Mesa, and Channel Islands all met at Pacifica this week to work on culinary skills with C-CAP chefs. Students worked for five hours on primavera, tourne potatoes, pastry cream, chocolate sauce and crepes, which were all judged by the visiting chefs. Great to see the students working hard, supporting and assisting each other through the process!
On Saturday February 23, 11 students competed in the Ventura College Math competition. Five of our Mathletes made the top 15 in the individual competition with Christian Salameh earning a medal for 3rd place. In the team competition, Oxnard High won 3rd place. The team actually tied and went into the tie breaker problem against the team who ended up in first place. It was a very close competition! Congrats to all the participants.

Congratulations to both Lance Pascasio and Ximena Fernandez for outstanding recognition as Boys and Girls State American Legion Auxiliary Delegate for OHS. OHS alternate delegates are Isabel Lob, Janessa Garcia and Emery Barajas. Ximena and Lance will be a delegate in a week-long leadership program where they will learn more about the duties, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship. Again great job to these young ladies on their recognition!
