The 2018 OHS College Night kicked off in the PAC and it was nearly a full house! OHS Counselors along with the wonderful Mrs. Baylor collaborated together to invite all OHS Students and Parents to join the night in selecting workshops by a variety of Universities representatives. This year we had a total of 20 presenters from nearby schools and far away as Drexel University, which is a private out-of-state university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The furthermost out-of-state presenter came from Johnson & Wales located in Providence, Rhode Island.
We had UC Santa Barbara, UC Merced & UC Davis make their way to OHS. We send nothing but positive vibes to the representative from UC Davis. CSU Channel Island and CSU Northridge were also present for the night. Private Universities that visited the OHS night event consisted of California Lutheran University, Pepperdine University, and Life Pacific University. Our three local Community Colleges were present, Oxnard College, Ventura College and Moorpark College. Our very own counselor, Mrs. Phillippe also presented throughout the night on A-G tracking & Google classroom. The numerous workshops covered topics of Financial Aid, Upward Bound at CLU, CSUCI OLAS, and scholarships such as the Ronald Regan Presidential Foundation.
A very special thank you to all the student volunteers, counselor interns & all other OHS staff (you know who you are) that contributed to making this year’s College Night a success!!!
On Saturday October 6, Law and Public. Service Academy students volunteered at the 23rd annual City of Oxnard Multicultural Festival. Students helped set up the day, worked international booths and had fun. It was a great community service event.
We had a packed house for FAFSA last Thursday, October 4th, the College and Career Center was full of English-speaking parents and the library was full of Spanish speaking parents. Our parents are partnering with us to ensure our seniors have a powerful future that includes college.
