OXNARD HIGH SCHOOL ACA DECA TAKES 1st IN STATE COMPETITION
What a remarkable achievement for our ACA DECA students, our school, and for our community! A great big congratulations to our nine-member team who won the Division III Championship Title at the March 20-26 competition in Sacramento. A new first OHS, our district, and the West County in the 30-year history of ACA DECA. With 69 teams from around the state competing, and with 29 teams in our division alone, in addition to winning 1st place in our division, our team also won 3rd place in our division for Super Quiz.
Individual Awards To:
Team High Score Award and a Medal in Math
Most Individual Medals Awarded to any One Student in our School’s History at State (Art, Music, Social Science, and 3rd Highest Varsity in Division III)
A special note of “heartfelt thank yous” to Robert Borneman, Chris Conte, and Jim McCrory, our ACA DECA Coaches, who have given hundreds upon hundreds of hours, over the past 15 years, of their unwavering mentorship and leadership to the success of OHS ACA DECA!
OHS Metal Robotics, with their Robot “Sparky” was Unanimously Deemed the Rookie All Star at Last Weekend’s First Robotics Competition
The team spent countless hours, over many weeks preparing, and their preparation paid off. They are now qualified for the World Championships and are heading to Houston, Texas! Great job Andrew Urias, Ty Hebrard, Angela Duran, David Pulido, Christian “Coconut” Foster, Jade Chongsathapornpong, Jenisa Nguyen, Tommy Hafter, Shaine Palabrica, Sara Centeno, Christian “PatPat” Solis, Christian Salameh, Alejandro Ruiz, and Luis Rivera. Congratulations to Nicholas Peterson, OHS Science teacher and Robotics Adviser!
Oxnard High School Celebrates World Autism Awareness Day
Many of the students and staff members entered the gates Monday morning wearing blue. Students from the Autism program, along with assistance from Peer Resource and ASB students, passed out Autism stickers and awareness bracelets were sold for $1.00. All donation proceeds will go directly to the Autism Society Ventura County. Students also participated in an interactive art project during lunch and added their hand prints to the branches of a painted tree on display.
OHS Blood Drive is Successful
Peer Resource and the American Red Cross hosted a Blood Drive at OHS in participation of the March Blood Drive which resulted in 342 lives saved! Way to make the sting mean!
NEW RECORD HOLDER IN TRACK & FIELD
Wednesday, vs Rio Mesa, over very own 9th grader, ARISSA THOMPSON, ran the 200 meter dash in 25.49 seconds to break the 8-year old record set by Jasmine Loring in 2010!
