OHS STUDENT COUNCIL held their second meeting of the semester Wednesday during 4th period in the Performing Arts Center. Class representatives or interested students were invited to actively engage in advocating for the Yellow Jacket students. Student Council is the one true forum where the student body is given an opportunity to voice their concerns and receive feedback from not only their elected officers, but the OHS Administrative team as well. Some of the topics covered were:
- Closure of the respective buildings during lunch/black top.
- Educational Rigor
- Trash on Campus
- Locked Restrooms
- Traffic Issues
- Food Services
- Senior Information
- State Testing Updates
TUESDAY’S COLLABORATION focused on certificated staff preparing for a strong finish to semester one.
OHS DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AND COUNSELORS are already preparing for school year 2018-2019. Assistant Principal Oscar Verdin will be meeting with the respective department chairs to review next year’s course offerings in addition to receiving input to our current course offering menu, possible new courses to be offered, matrix of individual course sequence, etc.
ATHLETICS MAKING THE STING MEAN!
Our Athletes of the Week continue to dominate the pitch and the court! Congratulations to Sasha Franco, Boys’ Soccer and Luis Cervantes, Boys’ Varsity Basketball.
Girls’ Varsity Bball defeated Channel Islands High School 72-36. Andrea Padilla led the way with 14 points followed by Bri Roldan and Myesha Lumas with 12 points apiece.
Girls’ Water Polo also defeated Channel Islands High School 21-0 lead by Crystal Perez with 2 goals and 3 steals, and Kaitlin Zurawik with 1 goal, 2 assists, and 2 steals!
Boys’ Bball continues to be a force to be reckoned with! All three levels swept the Rio Spartans. Varsity won 59-49 to move to 2-0 in league and 13-6 overall. Dominic Brown had 17 points and Luis Cervantes with 14.
CSF is hosting its annual university tour February 11 & 12. Students will visit five campuses including CSU Long Beach, UC Irvine, UCSD, SDSU, and UCLA. CSF members will be given priority but all are welcomed. (See Mr. Mostowa).
Chalk Drawing has proven to be a crowd pleaser! Chalk drawing competition continues with students voting for their favorite designs on Fridays during student lunch.
Robotics Club is OHS’s coolest new program! This club is always looking for new members for all types of jobs including design, artwork, social media, building programming, driving, and many others. (See Mr. Peterson).
