OXNARD HIGH SCHOOL WEEKLY UPDATE MAY 25, 2018

May 25, 2018

MBA Juniors had the experience of a lifetime kayaking at the Channel Islands Harbor.  This was a first-time event for many of the students and, for some, the first time they had visited the harbor.  Celebrate Life organized the program in conjunction with CSUCIs Boating Center who demonstrated the many ways multimedia is used to share information about the ocean.  After the kayaking excursion, the students were exposed to both team bonding and leadership building activities which strengthened an already close bond with the MBA students.

MBA Sophomores were treated to a work site tour hosted by CEO Marc Netka of STS Education in Simi Valley.  Mr. Netka shared the innovative business practices he developed at STS since co-founding the “fast growing” business many years ago.  Several employees addressed the students regarding their career pathway which to their interest in working at STS.  After the tour, Q&A session, and a pizza luncheon, the students presented their games and applications created in the AP Computer Science Principles course.  It was a productive day!

WASC is always a continuing effort!  Tuesday’s late start collaboration highlighted our WASC Focus Groups.  The respective groups, Organization, Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment & Accountability, School Culture, and Support for Student Personal & Academic Growth met in specific locations to evaluate our areas of strength and growth.

OHS 2nd Annual Gen Ed and Functional Skills Basketball game. The atmosphere was full of excitement as the mixed teams took to the floor in front of a full crowd periods 3 & 4 Tuesday.  Our ASB students made personalized banners for each functional skills student.  Team Swarm defeated Team Ballers 42-38!

OHS Seniors Awards Night was a grand occasion!  Our College Career Technician Constina Baylor hosted an impressive Annual Scholarship & Awards Program Wednesday evening.  Approximately 98 Yellow Jacket Super Star Scholars were honored and awarded scholarships totaling approximately $1.5 million and this number could grow!  The Performing Arts Center was full of proud parents/guardians, family members and friends as the student names were called to be recognized for their hard work, devotion, and determination in striving for excellence!  Thank you to Board President Dr. Davis for sharing in celebrating the OHS 2018 senior class achievements and recognition!
